  • What NASA’s simulated missions tell us about the need for Martian law Six people recently returned from an eight-month long isolation experiment to test human endurance for long-term space missions. Their “journey to Mars” involved being isolated below the summit of the world’s largest active volcano in Hawaii (Mauna Loa), and was designed to better understand the psychological impacts of manned missions. It seems humans are on the inevitable trajectory to colonise Mars. It is therefore becoming important to ask what laws will govern humans on Mars as it is to ask whether we could survive on the planet’s surface.

  • Civil Liability (Non-economic Loss) Amendment Order 2017 (NSW) - amendment to the Civil Liability (Non-economic Loss) Order 2010 to adjust, for the year commencing 1 October 2017, the maximum amount that may be awarded for damages for non-economic loss under the Civil Liability Act 2002 (the Act). Section 17 of the Act requires the Minister to declare the amount in each year. The amount is to be indexed by reference to movements in average weekly earnings.

  • Motor Accidents Compensation (Determination of Loss) Amendment Order 2017 (NSW) The object of this Order is to adjust, for the year commencing 1 October 2017, the maximum amount that may be awarded for damages. Section 146 of the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999 requires the Minister to declare the amounts on or before 1 October in each year. The amounts are indexed by reference to movements in average weekly earnings.

  • Motor Accidents (Determination of Non-Economic Loss) Amendment Order 2017 (NSW) The object of this Order is to adjust, for the year commencing 1 October 2017, the maximum amounts that may be awarded for damages for non-economic loss to persons who have been injured as a consequence of a motor accident to which the Motor Accidents Act 1988 applies
