Re-opening of the library from Monday 29 November 2021

Fri Nov 26 2021

We are pleased to advise that the Bar library will re-open from Monday 29 November and will be open between 8:30am and 5:30pm.

Visiting Guidelines and Safety Requirements

You must check in using the QR code at the entrance to the library. Please make sure you bring your phone.

It is a requirement under the New South Wales Bar Association's COVID 19 Vaccination Policy that all visitors to the library be fully vaccinated. Please make available for inspection your evidence of vaccination status to a staff member once you have checked in.

The New South Wales Bar Association Vaccination Policy is available here.

Please note the following further safety measures :

  • Please sanitise your hands on arrival and departure.
  • It is strongly recommended that you wear a mask.
  • Please be mindful of social distancing (1.5 metres between you and others) at all times.
  • If you are feeling unwell, even with mild cold or flu symptoms such as sore throat/cough, please do not visit the Library.

Please adhere to these guidelines for the safety of all members and staff. Members are requested to exercise courtesy and patience when requested by Association staff to provide a vaccination certificate or adhere to these safety procedures.

Loans

In an effort to minimise the handling of materials, the following loan procedures will apply. Any books currently on the shelf in the library will need to be collected from the shelf and borrowed by the member (or agent), this will be done via a self service kiosk.

Any books currently on loan and which have been reserved, will be loaned to the member by the librarians after 24 hours quarantine and put out in the Click & Collect trolley for collection during library hours.

You will receive an email confirmation that the books are available to collect. The books will be checked out and ready for your collection when you receive the email. Please do not come in until you have received this email.

You will now only be able to reserve books that are currently on loan.

Returns

There is a trolley available at the front door during library hours for you to deposit returned books safely. Please do not return books when the library is closed. Returned books will not be available to borrow for a minimum of 24 hours for health and safety reasons.

Bar Library - Click, Collect and Return

Fri Nov 12 2021

As restrictions are beginning to ease, we are pleased to advise that the Bar Library is offering a 'Click, Collect and Return' service for textbook loans.

We hope that this service will enable us to fulfil your requests for hard copy textbooks without significantly increasing health risks to library users and staff. The Click, Collect and Return Service will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Here's a 'How to' guide.

The books will be available for you to collect from a trolley outside the library on the sub-basement level of Selborne Chambers. There will also be a returns trolley available. The library will not be open; it will only be possible to collect and return books at these times. Please note that we will not be able to provide recalled books at the speed of light as we will be working within current guidelines regarding quarantining and relying on the kindness of your colleagues in returning books currently on loan.

Regional members of the Bar, please email your requests and we will trial a DX or Express Post service for you.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us by email and remember, don't hesitate to ask if you are in need of anything. We have mysterious ways of finding things.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – LIBRARY SERVICES

Fri Nov 05 2021

As outlined in In Brief, the Bar Library is offering a Click, Collect and Return service for textbook loans. It will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11am and 1pm. Please see the how to guide here.

The library is an important service for many members, and we do our best to make this the best service it can be. In my discussions with members the speed and quality of the research service in particular has been highlighted to me as extremely valuable, and the librarians have been pleased to be able to continue to provide this through the lockdown, servicing up to 170 requests per week.

It is with this in mind that we have only returned to the click and collect service at this time. While many businesses are reopening, the Bar library presently only has 2 librarians to run the library research service and the click and collect service. All businesses are seeking to balance service delivery with staff and visitor health and safety at present. I note that, with such a small staff, if either or both of the librarians become unwell we would be forced to dramatically reduce or suspend the library services we are currently providing.

Recruiting for another librarian is well progressed and we will keep the physical reopening of the library under close consideration as the public health situation advances in coming weeks. In the interim, I would ask you all to be patient and considerate with the librarians, who are doing their absolute best to deliver library services for the membership through this challenging time.

Andreas Heger Executive Director
